Porsche Repair: Lot of White Smoke while driving, porsche owner, white smoke

I have a 1979 911SC (160,000 miles) and I was driving home from work when I noticed plumes of white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. (I'm a first time Porsche owner and I've had the car just about one year) I pulled over the the engine stalled out. There was enough smoke to make the cars near me completely disappear. Not good I'm assuming.

The first thing I'm thinking is someone overfilled the engine oil.
Check the engine oil with the dipstick when the engine is at normal operating temp, at idle, and on level ground. This is the only way to check it, and it has got to be at normal operating temp.

If it is not the oil level, you have big problems with you engine.
