Porsche Repair: 944 not starting / no spark to plugs, test light, oil pressure

Question
I can manually ground coil to make plugs spark. replaced DME relay yet when I try to start no fuel pump noise. Checked through dme computerplug with test light and pump runs. checked wiring from switch to computer and wiring from starter. The engine turns over but no spark. I also tried to bypass alarm any suggestions other than computer? This first started only once in a while and I would let it sit a while and everything would be ok then more often now it won't run at all.

Answer
Hi Rodney,

If I understand correctly, you have no fuel AND no spark.  You can bypass the computer to make the fuel pump run and you can bypass the computer to make spark.  The computer seems to be the common link.  But the puzzling thing is the way the problem developed...over time...getting worse.  This seems unusual...usually the computer will die...not linger.

One other thing to look at when the engine is cranking...does the oil pressure look like normal...if it stays at zero, there is probably a no-start rule about requiring at least some oil pressure to start.

If this looks OK, it probably makes sense to start pricing a new computer.  I'd very much consider a used one froma wrecked/previously running car...at least to verify you computer is dead.
