Porsche Repair: spark plug gap, spark plug gaps, msd 6a

Question
Hi Dave,
My porsche is a 1972 targa T chasis with a 1976 "S" type motor.( I know, bad casting year<g>)..I replaced the bad CD unit with an Msd 6A setup a few years ago. I run PMO carbs and a blaster coil..Just installed a rebuilt distributor from Motor Miester, curved for the carbs and electronic igniton..(5 degrees atdc timing?)
My question, any opinion on what gap I should be setting my plugs at? I've seen ranges according to the msd booklet of up to .06" for the compression in the 2.7 lt engine..have been setting them at .04"
thanks for any help you might offer

Answer
Hi Ditch

I received a notice regarding your All-experts question.  It was supposedly deliveredearlier,  but I didn't see it until this evening.  Any way...sorry for the delay.

I'd be happy to talk about spark plug gaps...but the numbers you are quoting seem to be the valve clearance settings, not spark plug gaps.  Usually the gaps are .027-.045...these linds of numbers...and valve clearances are in the .04-.06 range.

Would you double check your info and get back to me?

Thanks

Dave
