RV Repair: Hydro-Flame furnace model 8241 DSI, hydro flame furnace, combustion air

Question
Erratic ignition. Sometimes it "backfires" while burner tries to light. Does this indicate an air leak ? Gas pressure is O.K. Water heater and stove works fine.

Answer
Jim,
The first thing I would check after the gas pressure would be the electrode. If the electrode is deteriorated or gapped too much the spark will not be strong and constant. which allows too much gas to accumulate before it ignightes.causeing the "backfire" sound.Make sure the Gasket on the electrode plate is good when re-installing the electrode.Double check that the combustion air intake is clear also. You will find that on the  right hand side of the furnace. If the air intake is plugged up or blocked the burner will not get enough air causing the same problem.

Thanks Chad
