RV Repair: Onan microlite 4000, electronic regulator, starter switch

Question
Hi Garry,
Pulled generator to service starter motor.  When I reinstalled,
generator flooding (will fire, but won't start).  When I hold choke
butterfly open and keep starter switch depressed, generator
runs fine.  It dies as soon as I release starter switch.

Things were running fine before I pulled generator?! (aside from
occasional surging right after start-up.)

Thanks for your time.

Answer
First, generator flooding sounds like the float in the carb sticking, or the needle valve not seating properly, if you have recently pulled the generator, some trash may have gotten under the seat or the float.

As far as the generator stops when you release the start button, that is typical of the electronic regulator failing
