RV Repair: air condition retro fit r22 to 134a, refrigerator compressor, old refrigerator

Question
can i retofit my unit to use r134a now has r22 in it

Answer
Hi Rodney:
Yes you can. Most auto parts places sell the kit. You will need a good vacuum pump to take out all the R22. I use an old refrigerator compressor for this. You will also need a piercing valve to get into the freon line. Install the valve in the larger of the two lines (low pressure line) going to the compressor of your unit. Hook the vacuum pump to the piercing valve and let it run for a half hour or so that gets all the 22 out. Then install the valve that comes in the kit and put in the 134. Put in 134 until the small line from the compressor (high pressure line) gets nice and hot, probably at least two cans. Thats it. Good luck.
