RV Repair: Slide slipping with noises, slide area, mountain aire

Question
1995 Newmar Mountain Aire 37.5 ft  one slide/driver's side/dinette
The RV is leveled and all steps to clear the slide area are done.
When pressing the switch the slide starts to go but stops around
three inches out making a popping/banging/juttering noise.  It is
almost like it is slipping somehow.  When pulling it back in there is
no noise until it is all the way in then the noise starts again and the
switch needs to be turned off.  I looked at the motor when the slide
was tried again and that is where the noise was coming from.  Any
ideas?

Answer
I believe you probably have a gear going bad. It could be a gear in the S/O mechanism, or in the motor itself. Considering that your unit is 10 years old, it could be time for a new motor.
The best thing for you do would be call Customer Service at NewMar. There are good people there that should be able to tell you exactly what need to be done.
