RV Repair: RV AC units, az desert, ac unit

Question
I was wondering if it would be possible to install a roof-mounted AC unit to my 4-door car, and what type of power they require?  My job requires me to idle in my car throughout the day in the AZ desert, but if I had a top-mounted AC unit i could just run that instead. Thanks for your time, Ryan

Answer
Hi Ryan:
I have never seen one but that is no reason why it cannot be done. Idling you gas powered car for that long is not good for the engine. The roof mount units will take either 115AC or 220AC. You would need a generator capable of 2-3 kw to kick the compressor on. I would do a little research on the net to see if anybody makes a portable cooling unit. Something like that has to be available, or at least it should be. The roof mount unit is always a workable solution. It would be a fun project for a good fabrication shop. Good luck.
