RV Repair: Motorhome hardwall siding application, parkland fibreglass, winnebago chieftain

Question
We purchased a 1989 Winnebago Chieftain motorhome and need to either re-paint the exterior or re-side it with hardwall fiberglass. Someone took house paint and a roller to it and made quite a nasty mess. We have renovated homes for years so we are confident we can re-side the motorhome if someone in the know can give us the procedure. Also, any thoughts on distributors of the siding in Canada?
Thanks in advance.

Answer
Chemical strippers or ordinary household paint removers can be used to remove built-up layers of old paint. The stripper is applied to the painted surface using a roller or brush. However, when using chemical strippers on a fiberglass body, use caution to avoid leaving the chemicals on too long and stripping all the way down to the bare fiberglass. Use the chemicals to remove only the top layers of paint, then follow up by sanding or other techniques. Chemical strippers can harm the surface of the fiberglass substrate, necessitating additional gel-coating of the body.

Re-siding is not diffulcult just fairly expensive, since you have been doing similar work you should be able to reverse engineer the removal. The main thing to watch for are the shallow channels used for wiring and plumbing.
