RV Repair: RV awning, happy camping, broken spring

Question
How do I repair a broken spring in rv awning?

Answer
Robert,
It will depend on what brand awning you have, but basically you will need to pull the awning down, remove whatever fastener is holding the spring assembly to the roller tube, remove the spring assembly from the hardware and replace it with the new one.  While someone holds the tube and hardware you will need to wind the spring before you attach it to the hardware.  You will do this by turning the top of the spring away from the RV.  I usually use vice grips clamped to the spring end cap where they wont be in the way of attaching the spring to the hardware once it is wound.  Then just reattach the end cap to the hardware.  I hope this helps, good luck and happy camping.
