RV Repair: Mr. Brown, I recently purchased..., rv supply store, roofing material

Question
Mr. Brown,

I recently purchased a 1994 24' Sportsman travel trailer with AC and 2 vents with the max-air covers on the roof.  We had a heavy rain the last two days and I found water dripping through the front 12v light socket....and water in the ceiling around the front vent.

The questions are:  1) What is the best way to dry out everything (ie. do I need to pull the roof paneling loose to let the insulation dry)?  2) What is the best way to repair the roof?  It is aluminum and looks like the last owner painted a white sealer (not rubbery and dried firm) on the roof......but didn't get under the max-air hood and thus the leak.  3)  What type of sealer should I use?  Will any of the sealers bond to the one already there?  and should I do the whole roof or just around the vents and the AC unit (which also was not moved to apply the last sealer and probably has cracks beneath the cover)since the main roof and edges appear to be very well sealed?

Thanks for helping the first-time trailer owner!

Brad

Answer
If it were mine, I would opt for a one piece rubber roof.  They are relatively easy to apply, somewhat reasonable in price and you will never have another leak again.
How do you dry things out? Depends on how much work you want to do but if it were mine, I would repair the leak and let it dry itself out over time.
You can also buy a brush/roll on rubber type roofing material, check with your RV supply store for your options.
