Saab Repair: 1990 Saab Rear Defrost, test light, rear window

Hi! I recently purchased this car and found that the rear defrost is often finicky and rarely works. Being that I live in Minnesota... kind of important. How would you suggest going about replacing this/fixing the rear defroster?

Put a test light on ground and test each wire in the rear window for power(while defrost is on)at both ends on the window. Be carefull not to damage the wire in the window. If you find one or more wires that do not have power, look for a break in the wire. There are kits available to repair the wire if you find an open circuit.
