Saturn Repair: Need help, coolant temperature sensor, car stalls

Question
My friend owns a 92 2dr. The problem is that the cooling fan won't turn on till you turn the ac on. But when you do that the fan and belts start squeaking and the car stalls out. The cooling fan wont come on if the ac isn't on then the car over heats. The belt is tight everything simple was done now what?

Answer
From what you are describing to me there is two problems. When you turn the A/C on it sounds like the A/C compressor is frozen. That needs to be replaced. Continuing to turn it on will only destroy the belt and compressor clutch. Second, it sounds as your coolant temperature sensor has failed. There are two sensors which are identical. One for the fan and one for the computer. I would replace both being that they cost $20 each. Small price for piece of mind.
