Saturn Repair: 1996 Saturn SL1 Sedan Manual - Growling noise, wheel bearing noise, engine rpms

Question
While cold, a very loud growling/vibration noise. It sounds really loud inside the car, like its just behind the passenger side engine compartment firewall, but outside can't hardly hear it.   When car has warmed and moved for awhile, noise tended to stop completely, but is increasingly longer to stop.

Moved the car at speed with engine off to check for wheel bearing noise and nothing.  Only get the noise with engine running (responds to engine rpms) and the car is moving/coming to a stop, especially a left turning slow/stop.

Noise seems worse since I had to pop-clutch start the car. (I was out in the boonies with no cell phone coverage and a 5-mile walk in the dark to the nearest (closed) lake fishing town.)

Thanks in advance for any light you might shed on the issue.

Answer
Roger,
Take the serpentine belt off and check all of your pulleys.  These tend to make growling noises (that coincide with RPM) when the bearings go out.  The other thing that it could be is the P/steeing pump.  Saturn pumps don't like cold weather.  Pour a little p/steering conditioning fluid into your power steering pump and see if that makes a difference.  Let me know how it come out.
