Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troy-bilt 13AT609G766, pivot point, auto drive

Question
I have a Troy-Bilt 13AT609G766 2005 with auto-drive.
The variator assembly failed and the belt was broken.
Variator was replaced as well as the belts.
All adjustments made properly and all is well now.

When I push the pedal to move forward or back, the cruise
sticks in the engaged position in the gear below the frame.
It will release when pressing the brake or the motion pedal again.

I'm told this has been a problem since the tractor was new.

I would like to know if an adjustment is possible, or possibly an
incorrect cruise rod installed from the factory.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Answer
I would check the cruise rod.  While very dangerous, can you remove the deck and watch under the mower as a helper moves the pedels to see if anything is binding or maybe a spring is missing.  We have a chain hoist we use to lift mowers and it works well when we have to do something like this.

Is the idler pulley/variable pulley pivot point wore and binding?
