it looks like the reason my mower won't start is due to the neutral switch not working. I'm not cheap bu any means but the part is around 20.00 and the shop wants to charge me 500.00 to change it out. can you tell me how to change this on my mower? or is there a way to by pass this switch

The parts diagram was not very helpful.  Take a look at the transmission and see if there are any wires connected to it.  If there are no wires then the switch is not in the transmission so it must be near the clutch pedal...just follow the clutch linkages to a switch with wires.

Let me know where you switch is located as the parts diagram did not show the switch location.
