QuestionI need the drive belt installation diagram for 917.276081 Craftsman GT 5000. One that is better than the parts diagram on Sears direct. Need to know which side of each roller belt goes around.
AnswerNo luck finding a good diagram but I have some tips to help figure it out.
On V shaped pulleys, the V portion of the belt rides in the V portion of the pulley. On flat pulleys, the flat portion of the belt rides on the flat portion of the pulley.
While this sounds simple, which it is, it has helped me out in the past on figuring out how to install belts when no diagram existed. I would start with the engine crankshaft and install the belt on the cranshaft and the transmission pulleys. These should be V pulleys.
Next, check out the two pulleys. The ilder pulley has a flat face so you know the back of the belt rides on the flat face of the pulley. The other pulley has a V so you know the V portion of the belt rides here.
With a little patience and may be a couple of tries you should not have any problems installing the belt. You will probably have to loosen some belt guides and have someone hold the clutch down so you can install the belt.
