Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): mower wont go forward or back, ford new holland, kohler command

I have a ford new holland Model # LS45H with a Kohler command 16 hp mower. I got it started today and it won't go forward or back. It has a hydrostatic trans. What could the problem be?
When I press the pedal it goes back into place. Serial # T4D-0451
I think it was made in 1998.

Check for a worn belt first.Then check the linkage. Next jack the unit up and try to run it forward and reverse with the engine running.If there is any movement at all in either direction then check the fluid level to see if it is up to the top.The worst case is the hydro. unit has a stuck check valve or something broken inside.Hope some of this helps.
