Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Murray 16.5 hp 42 deck Murray Select Model, safety switches, battery cables

Question
Hi Eric,
Here is my problem. I was mowing the lawn for about twenty minuets and the engine just stopped. I was in gear and the deck was engaged. I've never had a problem with this machine. It is a 2001 model. It has always run well.
I did clean out mouse nests under the plastic engine top housing.
When I turn the key, nothing happens. The headlites also don't go on.
I checked all my wires and connections and can find no breaks or mouse nawing etc. (We live in the country.)
The engine is not frozen. I can spin the cylinder.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Is the fuse blown?  Have you checked the battery voltage?  Do you have a voltmeter to do some trouble-shooting?

When checking the battery, go ahead and dis-connect the battery cables and clean the battery terminals and cable ends with a wirebrush.  When the connections are clean, re-connect.

Did you check to make sure one of the safety switches did not come unplugged?

Let me know.
Eric
