Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere LTR180 broken axle shaft, axle shaft, broken axle

I have a John Deere LTR180 that has a broken axle shaft. Is there a place to buy an axle shaft from (new or used)? My local John dealer says you have to buy the whole transmission. Don't really know if this mower is worth spending that much on. Not sure if trying to weld the shaft would be an option (probably wouldn't hold). I believe this machine uses Tuff Torq K46A transmission...about $670.00 CAD

The axles can't be welded.

But you can buy new ones.  Tuff-Torq lists them for $18.58 for the left and $28.04 for the right.  Your serial number may have a different price, I didn't go through all of the lists.
