Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda Self propelled mower, snap ring pliers, drive wheels

Question
I have a Honda self propelled mower. the wheels will  spin in low speed only (1) not in 2 3rd 3. I checked the belt seamed to have tension on it. the mower is about 4 years old. Also if you don't hold the clutch it will not pull backwards . the wheels lock up. (this is while it is not running. Not sure if it always did that. any suggestions.

thank you so much for your help

Ron

Answer
First thing I would do is remove the drive wheels, and then remove,
claen and lube the gears and their locking keys, take notes or pics
so you get them put back on the right way, if anything is worn or broke, you need to replace those parts, but likely just froze/rusted
up, put semisolid grease on the stuff and reassemble.
You will need a small pair of snap ring pliers.
