Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Older Craftsman 18 42cc chainsaw, digit prefix, plastic bracket

Question
Thanks for taking time for my question.  Chainsaw wont start, noticed no gas getting to plug. took saw apart and carb is loose from head.  I can not figure out how to tighten the carb back to the head, can only see one screw that has backed out on the right side of the carb.  I can not get to the bolt though, the carb body is in the way and don't know how to remove it?  There are two small (not sure what they are called, have no heads) screws that hold down the plastic cover for the air cleaner element that are loose on both sides of the carb, has nuts that hold cover in place.  Not sure if that is by design to hold the plastic bracket that houses the air cleaner element? Likely gaskets are blown or gone, and not sure if it is worth the time or money to fix?  Thanks for your advice and don't work to hard.  Tim

Answer
These Poulan saws had a bad habit of losing screws, but replacement parts are pretty cheap, and they are not that hard to work on.
First you should remove the muffler, and you can look at the piston and see if it has been damaged by running with an air leak,
If not, you may just have to replace a few screws and gaskets.

You will have to remove the carb to get at those other screws,
getting a wobble headed allen wrench will help in working on this saw.
To get an illustrated parts diagram, go to searspartsdirect
and enter in the saw's model number, which will be on a small tag
somewhere on the saw, it will start with a 3 digit prefix like
358.xxxxxx
The screws are unique to Poulan, so you won't find anything like them at a hardware store, you can order them at your local
mower shop or online, like from Sears.
