Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): kawasaki engine surging, john deere lx188, 4 stroke engines

Question
I have a John Deere LX188 mower that has a Kawasaki fd501v 2 cylinder engine. The engine surges when it is not under load. It doesn't surge when under load. The air filter is new. My next step is to clean the idle passages of the carburetor?? I would feel comfortable doing this if I could find an exploded parts view to guide me through this. Is this available on the web?
