Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MV16s-56521 wont start, jumper cable, starter solenoid

Question
Same problem as Mike. When you say to touch the jumper
cable to the larger post on the starter, are you referring
to the post on the top of the starter? It has a nut on the
top, then a washer, then a spring. It touched the jumper
cable to this post and got sparks. Am I doing something
wrong?

Answer
Hello John:

>>The Large Post on the Starter where the Battery Cable from the Starter Solenoid is Attached is Where you Firmly Touch the Jumper Cable End.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (Kohler) and Enter the Model and Spec Numbers (MV16S-56521). Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View.
>>You should have a Small Amount of Spark when you Check the Starter and then the Starter should Start to Turn. If All you Get is Sparks and the Starter makes No Attempt to Turn or Turns Slowly, then the Starter Requires Replacing. **Do Not Attempt to Rebuild this Starter.
>>From your Description it Sounds like the Starters Field or Brushes have a Short.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
