Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Pull cord comes out backwards!, starter clutch, briggs and stratton

Question
Hi the lawn mower in question is a Morrison Sprint 35 (briggs and Stratton) the model no: 5902 0110 01 91062651....when the mower actually starts a really loud clicking sort of sound starts and the pull cord starts to come back out backwards what would be causing this...i would of thought that maybe the cord has been put on wrong, but if that was the case i didn't think it would start.
If you could help me solve this i would much appreciate it thankyou.

Answer
Hello Robbie:

>>The Problem is the Starter Clutch is Frozen and Requires Cleaning and a Light Coating of Oil.
>>The Following is a Basic Instruction File I made for Cleaning the Most Common Pull Starter Clutches. Any Input is Appreciated.
>>Remove the Blower Housing (Metal Engine Cover). This will Give you Access to the Starter Clutch.
>>This has Several Ball Bearings in it, so be Careful when you Remove the Solid Cover.
>> Secure the Crankshaft, Remove the Wire Screen from the Starter Clutch.
>>Use a Small Thin Standard (flat) Screwdriver (I Use a Pocket Screw Driver All the Time or a Putty Knife is Easier for Most Questioners) and Pry Off the Cover.
>>You can Now Clean and LIGHTLY Lubricate the Bearings, Ratchet Spring Adapter (there is no Spring. it is called the ratchet spring adapter because it adapts the starter clutch to the Recoil spring and rope assembly in the blower housing) and the Starter Clutch Support Section of the Crankshaft.
>>Make Sure there is No Rust or Dirt in the Support Section of the Crankshaft and LIGHTLY Lubricate this Area Also.
>>Once the Starter Clutch is Clean, Place the Center Component of the Starter Clutch (the Ratchet Spring Adapter) into the Starter Clutch Housing and then Put the Bearing Into the Housing. Then Tap the Starter Housing Cover Back Into Place. >>Reassemble the Rest of the Components and you are Finished.
>>**If you have a Different Style Starter; then Send me the Make, Model, Type/Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model (5 or 6 Digits) and Type Numbers (first 4 digits Only are Required). Example: 5902-0110 or you can Use 6 Type Number Digits; Example: 5902-0110-01. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Select Sectional Index. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View.
>>Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag, if I Missed Something or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
