Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler M20 Governor, magnum series, cam gear

Question
My M20 has went through 2 other governors, the last one caused a hole in the block. After repairing it I ran it at slow speed for less than an hour and the governor has disengaged from the cam gear. what can be causing the governor to move like this?

Answer
Hello Corwin:

>>You can View a Breakdown of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.kohlerplus.com/login.asp and Select Enter as Guest. Now Select the Thumbnail of the Engine Catalog you Wish to View. Select and Download the Service Manual TP-2204-B in the Magnum Thumbnail.
>>Have you Changed the Oil Pump?
>>I have Not Seen a Recall or Notice on the M-20 Engines that Suggest a Problem with the Internal Governor Component.
>>Unless the Oil Pump Requires Replacing and is Starving the Governor for Lubrication, I have Not Seen this Problem before.
>>I have had to Replace Several Governors in the Magnum Series Engines, but Usually it was Due to Lack of Lubrication.
>>Is the Sump Worn where the Governor is Supposed to Rest when the Sump is Replaced onto the Engine Block? There is a Recessed Area that the Governor Rests in when the Sump is Installed Onto the Engine. If this Area is Damaged, then the Governor can Move and become Dislodged from the Cam Gear.
>>Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag, if I Missed Something or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
