Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Toro snowthrower dies on 1/2 tank of gas, vent hole, snowthrower

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1987 Toro CCR2000 snowthrower with a Suzuki 4.5 hp 2 cycle engine. I replaced the needle valve in the original carb a few times due to it leaking out of the top and which worked for a year or 2 and then it would start doing it again. Since the blower was otherwise in fine condition I gave in and replaced the carb with an original Toro part. Now it seems to stall out like it is out of gas when the tank is still half full. I have tried changing the inline fuel filter but that doesn't help. It starts back up fine once I refill the tank but it is finally starting to get pretty annoying. Should I need to adjust the float level in a brand new carburetor?

ANSWER: When the engine dies, how long do you leave it before you refill it with fuel?  Perhaps your Coil is getting hot and it quits working at a certain temp, so if you can check spark and see if you have spark, if you have no spark, you need to replace the ignition, this is known as an intermittent  spark problem,  but an easier test is to loosen the fuel cap and try restarting it.  You could have a bad fuel cap.

You should not need to adjust the float on a new carb.

QUESTION: Thanks Dave. I typically refill it within 2 minutes after it dies but it restarts immediately.  I replaced the coil about 5-6 years ago due to it not wanting to restart after I stopped it for a few minutes. I would have to wait until it cooled down. Thankfully that issue is behind me now. When it does it again I'll try to quickly remove the cap to see if it will continue to run. Do the caps go bad often? All there is is a vent hole.....correct?

Answer
okay...lets rule out the coil for now.  a fuel tank not venting properly can give you the condition your describing too.  actually just loosen the cap while operating it to see if this prevents it from stopping.

Another thing is does it always stop at the same fuel level in the tank?  If so perhaps you have an obstruction or something blocking fuel flow...i dont know...I'm jut brain storming here right now.
