Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): McCulloch MS 1635 Oiler, many different ways, worm gear

Question
I just replaced the carb on my McCulloch MS 1635 chainsaw last week.  It runs better that new.  I put about 4 hours on it.  I started it the other day and the chain was turning backwards.  I shut the engine off and restarted it.  It ran forwards this time.  The oiler quit working at that moment.  I tried to prime the oil pump many different ways.  The bar hole and groove are clean and there is a full tank of oil in the saw.  Could the engine running the wrong direction have broken the oil pump on this saw.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Looking at the blowup of the saw, it has a mechanical oil pump run off of a worm gear, and I suppose it is possible that it may have been damaged from running backwards, but getting to it would be quite a job.

It may however, just be clogged.  I would drain out the oil tank, fill halfway with fuel mix, shake, rinse, repeat.  The fill up again
with fuel mix, and run the saw without the bar and chain on it.  Many times this will break up any clogs.  I would try this first.
Of course, be careful when handling fuel.
Hope this helps.
