Question
Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ignition Coils on a Project Engine, honda 50cc, cam assembly
Project Engine
John,
I am building an engine for a project vehicle. I have a 3.5 HP B&S block and crankcase and am using a Honda 50cc piston and overhead cam assembly - requiring an external timing chain. This means that I am using the B&S flywheel and ignition coil with the Honda spark plug. The engines fires right up at first, but once it's hot it will not restart. I have tried 3 different coil packs and all 3 have the same issue. Any ideas on the cause?

Answer
Hello Dan:

>>Have you Tried Running the Engine with the Blower Housing Attached to the Engine?
>>The Blower Housing is Used to Direct Air from the Flywheel Fins Across the Coil and Keep it from Heating Up to a Point it Shorts Out as you Described.
>>If No Blower Housing, Set up a Cooling Fan that will Blow Air Over the Coil.
>>Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag, if I Missed Something or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
