QUESTION: P.K.
I have a Poulan wild thing model 2375,the problem I'm having is, the chainsaw will start up fine and idle O.K. but when I squeeze the trigger to give it the gas it goes dead. I have replaced the sparkplug, fuel filter and the air filter also it has fresh gas in it. Any help you could give me would be appreciated.
Thank you
Ronnie

Answer
There are several things that could cause this and often on chainsaws you have more than one problem at a time.  In the shop we tend to not bother trying to find the specific problem on something like this, we generally just do a complete chainsaw service.  This is cheaper and quicker for the customer and almost always resolves this type of issue.

We'll rebuild the carburetor, replace the plug, syringe, fuel lines and filter and clean the exhaust and clean or replace the air filter.  We'll also inspect the intake manifold and replace any gaskets there.  We also pressure and vacuum test the engine to check the seals.

Probably you either have a carburetor that's needing to be gone through or a fuel line with a crack or small hole.  Usually the saw will rev high if there's an air leak in the intake or crank seals as the mixture leans out. It could be possible to have a leak in one of those spots, but I don't think I'd go to that first.

I'd rebuild the carb with a new kit.  How you clean the carb is the key to success here.  Just spraying it with carb cleaner probably won't get it.  We use an ultrasonic cleaner, but any of the commercially made carb soak cans that you get at auto parts stores will work fine.

The caveat here is that if you have to buy the cleaner, it will cost probably $30-40.  I have one of the carbs for the 2375, P/N 545081885, listed for $28.60.  So this is one of those cases where it's cheaper to replace the carb probably.  You'd need to be sure this is the right P/N for your saw using the model and serial numbers, but that should be pretty close.  You can look it up on our parts list at Grandjunctionsmallengines.com  or any Poulan Service Center.  Thanks and let me know if this helps.  PK.
