Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda HS35 wont shut off, follow-up, honda hs35, jumper wires

Question
QUESTION: All wires are hooked up.  Now that you mention it, when I got the used CDI unit, I was wondering why there was a wire spliced in to both the black and red wires.  They were just dangling not attached to anything.  I bet there was a switch that was between them that was used to cut power to the CDI unit.  Would this be an effective way to cut power once again?  Or should something else be done.  Problem is, is that the CDI units aren't made and are getting harder to find used.  So if cutting the flow of power with an differnt switch than is on the blower originally, wouldn't harm the CDI unit, it would be the easier way for me to go, instead of trying to find another used CDI.  Thanks once again.   Honda HS35, Engine G150

ANSWER: With the engine running, touch this wire that is spliced to a ground..meaning the engine or the frame...see if the unit shuts off.

Let me know and we can proceed further

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Actually, I took those wires off solderd the old ones back together and shrunk wrap them, so the CDI looks stock again.  There was one jumpmer wire on the red and one jumper wire on the main black.  Nothing on the blac coming off the switch, actually the black coming off the switch didn't even have the connection, the wire was cut, but I re-soldered the proper connection back on.  I'm thinking the previous person may have had a switch on the jumper wires, between the black and red wires to short it out before it got to the CDI unit.  And this is how he turned it off.  Sorry, this is turning into such a pain.  Thing is I'd like to use this CDI unit if possible, instead of returning it and trying to find another used one, becuase this one was tough to find.  However, if shorting out the CDI to turn the engine off is going to shorten the life of the CDI, it maybe in my best interest to try to find another used one now, instead of having to look in a year or two.  Once again thank you for your time and patience.

Answer
No problem...no need to apologize, I am thinking that the Black wire was used as the kill switch as you are thinking.  I don't think it will hurt the CDI or shorten its life span.  I am trying to get a picture or image of this CDI unit as I don't recall what it looks like.

Is there a spaded terminal coming out of the CDI at all?

IS there anyway you can take a digital picture of the old CDI and the replacement and post it so i can see it?  You wont be able to e-mail the pic, but you can post it online and send me a link to view it.  In the mean time i will keep seeing if i can find one to get a view of.
