Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): pocket bike, piston ring compressor, cylinder head gasket

Question
how do you put together a new piston and ring kit on a 47cc pocket bike

Answer
I have never seen a pocket bike, but a piston is a piston is a piston...and so on...

Carefully place the rings on the piston.  There MAY be a difference in the piston rings so look at them closely-perhaps you got instructions on which ring goes in what groove, if not call the supplier they should be able to walk you through.

You place the lower ring on first.  IF your careful you can pry the ring apart with your fingers.  Be careful not to "EXPAND" to far or you will break the ring.  If there is a pin in the ring groove, turn the piston ring until the ends of the ring correspond with the pin in the ring groove.  If there is no pin, no problem.

Repeat the same for the upper ring.

Push your piston pin through the piston and connecting rod and place the piston pin keepers (C style clips)in the grooves in the wrist pin area. Make sure they "CLICK" into place-a loose circlip can ruin a newly repaired engine in seconds.

Replace the cylinder head gasket and carefully insert the piston into your cylinder making sure it compresses the first ring and then the second ring.  DO NOT FORCE the cylinder if it does not go.  You will break the rings.  The cylinder is tapered so its not necessary to use a piston ring compressor.

Thats about all I can think of right now...  Happy Wrenching!
