Mercedes: 2002 Mercedes E320 stuck in the Limp Home Mode, salvage yard, limp home

Question
QUESTION:  2002 Mercedes E320 4matic. Recently the car has been slipping into limp home mode... I am not sure if while it is in that mode if the gear is stuck in 2nd or 3rd. I was able to reset the computer by turning the car off then on again. Eventually the CEL came on. I brought the vehicle in to my mechanic n he changed the conductor plate, unfortunately that did not resolve the problem.

The car ran okay for a couple days and then slipped into limp home mode again with the CEL on...PLEASE HELP!!!

ANSWER: What codes are showing up when you place the vehicle on an analyzer?
When the vehicle is operating before you get the check engine lite, is the transmission performing normally... proper shift speeds with no slippage etc?

QUESTION: Hi,

Firstly thanks for reading and responding, I wasn't sure if this was gong to work or not :-)

1) I am not sure what codes appear on the mechanic's analyzer (I'm using a mechanic that doesn't have the Mercedes Benz computer/analyzer in order to avoid having to pay top dollars). However, it appears the transmission computer is faulty.

2) The car runs perfectly when the check engine lite(CEL) isn't on...no transmission problem, with the gears changing out nice and smooth.

The bottom line is I need my car to get fixed cause I need to get to work in a timely manner, your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Delroy

If you are sure that the tranmission computer is faulty, You will need to replace the computer. I know of no fix on any of this type of unit.
However, if the computer is reacting to a faulty sensor the it would not be best to replace the computer but start with the sensor first as it will probably be less expensive.
You may be able to locate a used computer or sensors at a salvage yard. Just make use they offer an return policy if it is defective.
Good Luck
