Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler governor, sears craftsman lawn tractor, craftsman lawn tractor

Question
Sears Craftsman lawn tractor being used for snow plowing.
Kohler 17.5 hp  Model # CV490S
Family 4KHXS.4902GB  Ser # 3411407743
Has a Walbro carb.

Had a fuel leak from the carb. Probably a stuck float needle.  Rebuilt the carb
and the leak appears fixed.  But now the engine runs too fast. I adjusted the
throttle stop to allow it to go run slower.  But when I throttle up the engine
sounds like it is revving way too fast.  I'm wondering if we messed something
up with the governor.  Thank you for any help you can provide.

Answer
Hello Jerry:

If you Did Not Bend the Governor Arm, then it May have Slipped on the Governor Shaft when the Carburetor was Removed. The Following is an Instruction File I Made for Making this Adjustment. Any Input is Appreciated.  If you Removed/Loosened the Governor Arm from the Governor Shaft or Put the Linkage in  a Bind when the Carburetor was Removed, then Reset the Governor. **To Reset the Governor; Loosen the Governor Arm Bolt and Turn the Governor Shaft Clockwise Until it Stops. Using the Governor Arm Hold the Carburetor to Full Throttle. Now with the Shaft Full Clockwise and the Governor Arm and Carburetor Held at Full Throttle, Tighten the Governor Arm Bolt. If the Engine Still Runs Full Throttle, then Reverse the Rotation of the Governor Shaft, but Still Hold the Carburetor at Full Throttle with the Governor Arm. If it Still Runs at Full Throttle, then Check the Internal Governor.** You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (Kohler) and Enter the Model and Spec Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
