Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Snowblower - Intermitent Travelling, friction wheel, craftsman snowblower

Question
QUESTION: Hi John,
My machine; Craftsman Mod. c950524303a
I bought this machine new 2 years ago and it has nearly no hours on it.

Usually when the machine has warmed up, the travel becomes intermittent. It isn't affected by changing speed or direction. There are no teeth missing from the drive gear. The machine can be moving forward, with the drive lever engaged and all of a sudden it just stops moving forward.

Please help
You helped solve a similar problem on a similar machine in March 2007 when Michael discovered that one of the 2 springs that help pull the swing plate up against the friction wheel when the traction drive lever is depressed had fallen off and the swing plate was pulled up unevenly against the friction wheel.

In my case all of the springs seem to be in their place.

ANSWER: Hello Jason:

Is it Possible this is a Craftsman/Sears Model C950524302A and Not a C950524303A? To View a Breakdown of this Unit Go to this Site Addy, http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action?sid=PSHx20080114x00001 and Enter the Model Numbers C950524302A and Click Search. From this Page you can View Diagrams and Parts Lists for you Equipment Using the "View Sub Components" Section Near the Bottom Left. Does this Happen at Regular Intervals? Is the Drive Chain Tightened Properly? Is the Friction Disc (has Rubber Outer Ring) Missing a Chunk from the Rubber? Thanks.

QUESTION: Sorry, it is a 302A. I have looked over the drive diagram and everything seems in place.
This happens irregularly. Usually after the machine has warmed up and when working through the snow. It almost feels like the belt is slipping, like you can feel it grabbing slightly, yet the idler on the belt is working right. The drive chain seems in order as does the friction disc.
Regards,
Jason

Answer
Hello Again Jason:

It is Possible that the Belt is Heating Up and Slipping. I Suggest you Check the Tension on the Belt After the Slipping Occurs. You May have to Tighten the Tension a Small Amount to Stop this Problem from Occurring. Also, Remember that Water from the Melting Snow will Cause the Belt to Slip if it Gets on the Pulley. Purchase a Small Can of Belt Dressing and Apply it According to the Directions to the Belt and See if this Corrects the Problem. I have had Several Units that had a Similar Problem and the Belt Dressing Corrected it. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
