I want to buy a motorhome, private sale, in California and bring it back to Canada. Will I have to pay California sales tax or take delivery in another state?

You should not have to pay California State Sales Tax.  You will have to go to the local DMV where you are buying the vehicle, and get a temporary tag to drive the vehicle, but they will ask you to fill out a form that states that you are purchasing the vehicle from out of state, which will exempt you from paying California State Sales Tax.
