Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): dead deere, safety system, spark plug

Question
I have a John Deere GX 345 with a starting problem. There is no spark at either plug. The circuit board has a green  and red light on it. The engine will crank, but will not fire. Where should I start?

Answer
With the trigger coil in the ignition coil.  Seeing the engine will crank, but not start the safety system should not be the issue.  The ignition coils have a separate ground find that and take it off check for spark.  If you still have no spark replaced the ignition coils.  The reasoning behind this is that the ground is used to kill the engine when the key is turned off.  With the key and start position ground goes through the spark plug body after the spark plug fires.  When trying to start the tractor be sure you try it in the operators position with the PTO off and break set or however John Deere recommends you start this tractor.
