Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Dipstick tube for Kohler Engine, replacement parts

Question
I have a K181S 8HP 1971 Kohler engine on a John Deere 110 Lawn Tractor. The dipstick tube is loose and oil is leaking out. I am having trouble finding a replacement tube. The tube is 12" long. Other numbers on the engine are;C234005, Spec# 303350.
Is there some product that I can coat the tube with, insert it into the crankcase hole, that will both seal it and hold the tube tight?
Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hello John,

AS you are aware, the operating temperatures of your engine are hot enough that they might possibly interfere with a substance that I might suggest to coat the tube.  I would try to contact Kohler/John Deere and find out if they might have any suggestions.

I would be very careful about retrofitting any kind of tube that is loose.  Remember with heat comes higher molecular activity and the loosening of metal parts.  Nothing beats a nice tight fit.

Good Luck,

Howard B.
