Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Homelite weed eater ZR series z825sd, air filter element, air fuel mixture

Question
This above weed eater starts and runs but when I give it gas it kills. When I first bought it I had to run it on choke-partly to get it to run. Now it idles but when I give it the gas by pulling the trigger it kills. Any idea what the problem might be?

Answer
With the issue you describe you have a restricted fuel passage.  When you had to run the engine one choke before, you were changing the air fuel mixture making the engine run more rich.  The only thing you can do is clean the fuel system.  Clean the tank, tank vent fuel cap, fuel filter, and be sure you have good fuel flow to the carburetor.

Disassemble the carburetor and use a wire from a twist tie to clean every air and fuel passage.  Install a carburetor kit and remount carburetor using new mounting gaskets.  Attach throttle and choke linkage and start with new fresh gas and air filter element.  I hope this helps.
