Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Hard Starting, ultrasonic tank, engine mod

Question
I have a B&S edger 2.5 hp engine Mod.143571002.Last season no problem starting. This season it would not start.I rebuilt the carob, was able to start the engine but could not keep it running.Gave it to a repair shop which charged me for a tune.
It was ok for a couple of starts. Know the only way I can get It started is by using starting fluid. No amount of pushing the primer does any good

Answer
Tune up wasn't the problem, you still had carb problems, now please bear with me and take no offense, people that try to rebuild their carbs have a 50-50 shot at it being done right. Not because they don't know how to change the rebuilding parts, but more so they don.t know all the little circuits and trick spots to clean out. There can be many small paths or fuel circuits drilled into the carb that needs to be cleaned out sometimes with a very small wire. Just swapping the parts in the rebuilding kit isn't a good rebuild unless all circuits are opened for the idle paths and main jets. In the shop we use a ultrasonic tank for heating the carb and opening all the passages. I get 2 or 3 carbs a week in the shop the owners rebuilt, only to find it still won't start or run correctly. After disassembling I usually find 1 or 2 clogged fuel paths.  Not being able to keep it running is telling me It isn't pulling fuel up through the main jets, or it's lacking fuel supply, is the line to the carb flowing well? Sometimes the gas cap vent becomes restricted causing a vacuum to develop.   Tom
