Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler MV16S running rich on one side, blown head gasket, carburetor adjustment

Question
I have a Kohler MV16S Spec 56509 Serial # 2211901536 that is running on a 1993 Cub Cadet. Overall the engine seems very strong for its age. When the mower throttle control is set to the lowest position and the engine running the left cylinder fires less and less and eventually will almost cut out. Removing the plug in that cylinder indicates gas not firing. The right side seems to still run OK. I replaced the coil just recently but still have the problem. I have cleaned the air filter, replaced fuel filter and added new gas. It seems to run OK on full throttle but low throttle leads to problem descibed above. Is it a simple carb adjust or something more?
Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hello Eric:

Since this is Happening on ONE Side ONLY, the Problem is Not a Carburetor Adjustment. This is Most Likely Cause is a Valve Problem, a Ring Problem or a Blown Head Gasket. You can View a Breakdown of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.kohlerplus.com/login.asp and Select Enter as Guest. Now Select the Thumbnail of the Catalog you Wish to View (Magnum). Then Select the MV16 Engine. Then Select your Model. You and I can Use this Site and Breakdown for a Reference if it is Required. From your Description, I Suggest you Check the Head Gasket and Valves First. If the Head Gasket and Valves are Good, then Check the Compression. If you Require more Detailed Instructions, Please Let me Know. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
