Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): starts but wont keep running, carburetor overhaul, google

Craftsman 6.5hp  My mower starts with a thick cloud of smoke(almost white) but it only runs for a second or two and it stops running. I have to push the primer bulb 3 or 4 times to get it to start again only to have it do the same thing. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Classic dirty carburetor.  Google Tecumesh carburetor overhaul and you will find several sites.

If the oil smells like gas you need to replace the inlet needle and seat along with changing the oil.
