Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): sears 18.5 HP 6 speed # 917.273811, engine stalls, safety glasses

Question
When I let up on the clutch/brake the tractor doesn't move and the engine stalls.
That happens in gear and neutral. When in gear, the tractor will lurch forward
just before the engine dies. The engine is fine when the mower only is engaged.
The belt seems to be fine and transaxle pulley turns when I push the tractor.

Answer
Hello George:

From your Description, it Sounds like the Clutch Idler Pulley has Frozen. Remove the Deck. Wearing Safety Glasses or a Face Shield, Check All the Pulleys and Idlers that the Ground Drive Belt Follows. One of these Pulleys or Idlers is Most Likely Frozen. Go to this Site Addy, http://www3.sears.com/ and Enter the Model Numbers in the Upper Left Search Box and Click Go. Then Visually Verify the Equipment and Click Continue. From this Page you can View Diagrams or Parts Lists for you Equipment. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
