Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Huskee/Murray Hydrostat problem, david answer, huskee

Question
QUESTION: Hello,

I have a 42" 16HP Huskee made my Murray, model #42909x60A with hydrostatic drive. It started making a clicking noise from rear of mower. The clicking will go away if I engage the clutch. The mower still seems to move OK, but the clicking noise bothers me. I checked the belt to see if there were any chunks missing, no chunks wee missing but there are some cracks, I can't believe the cracks would be making the noise I am hearing. Is there a spot to add oil to the gearbox? I do not have an owners manual for this. Thanks!

David

ANSWER: Hello David:

I can Not Locate Any Information on this Model Number. What is the Year of this Mower and are the Model Numbers Correct? However, have you Checked the Idler Pulleys and is the Noise from the Inside of the Hydro or Does it Sound External? Thanks.

QUESTION: Hi John,

Thanks for the reply! The model is actually 42909X60B, SKU 44-19879, SN ???-112198. I don't know what year it is. I wish I could locate an owners manual for it. I was able to get a parts list from Accent shortly after i obtained the mower but the parts list is for model 42909x60A instead of 60B. I had somebody else looking at it with me this afternoon & he was looking at it while I let the clutch out & he thinks the belt is loose & rubbing against a metal rod underneath near the transmission. I bought a belt but did not have time to put it on yet. Do you know if there is any kind of fluid level I should check in it? Thanks for your help!

ANSWER: Hello Again David:

Most Hydro Transaxles are Non Serviceable. The Clicking May be the Belt Hitting the Belt Guard (the metal rod) or a Bearing May be in the Process of Locking Up. On the Hydro is an OEM Plate. Can you Locate and Send me the Information Off this Plate, Please. I can Use these Numbers to Locate the Proper Manual for the Hydro and Better Assist you. Thanks.
