Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Electrical Issues 917.258910 Craftsman, electrical issues, stator

Question
Kohler Engine CV22S s/n#2634818897. I am working on this craftsman tractor that the battery was hooked up backwards & they the guy could not get started anymore. I disconnected everything from engine & cleaned coils & flywheel (been sitting in weather for about 2yrs) & got engine started but it ran rough, but was able to drive it around. Ordered carb kit & put in bath for 2-days & put back on. rebuilt the carb & put it back on & engine would not start. Now lost spark to  right side & very intermittent on left side. I suspect the control box that both coils go to but unable to find any info on it or where to find one. I disconnected that module & hooked new battery up & put 2 coils that came off a kohler 20hp (CV20S) & engine started & ran & I started it several times. Then battery posts got hot & key quit working & now fuel solenoid seems not to be working anymore. Have not been able to isolate where this might be shorting or grounded to. Cannot find a wire schematic either. Would love some help as this is driving me crazy. One day everything seems to be working, then everything is totally crap the next day.  Thanks from little john with BIG headache :)

Answer
Hello Little John:

If the Battery was Hooked Up Backwards to the Mower, then Disconnect the Stator (charger). Usually when the Battery is Reversed the Stator will Short Out and Cause the Ground Problem you Described. For the Electrical Schematic;  Go to this Site Addy, http://www3.sears.com/ and Enter the Model Numbers in the Upper Left Search Box and Click Go. Then Visually Verify the Equipment and CLick Continue. From this Page you can View Diagrams or Parts Lists for you Equipment. For the Engine Breakdown/IPL; You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
