Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman lawn tractor steering, craftsman lawn tractor, wheel and axle

Question
My dad just parked another tractor with a strange symptom (sorry I don't have the model number for you) his problem is with the steering. If he lifts the front end with a jack the tired move right and left just fine. when he lets it down and tries to drive it he has trouble with it binding up just plain hard to steer. Maybe you have some tips. Maybe a bearing somewhere going bad?

Answer
Hello Jim:

Check the Lower Bushings of the Axle Support. There is an Upper and a Lower Bushing that Supports the Wheel and Axle. Usually the Lower Bushing will Cause the Binding when it is Worn Out. Check for a Bad Tie Rod End. A Model Number Would Help. There are Several Different Types of Steering Linkages Used on Riding Mowers and the Model Numbers will Allow me to See a Breakdown of the Steering on this Mower. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
