Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda GX-120 quits after 2 minutes (fuel starvation?), honda gx 120, fuel starvation

Question
I have a Honda GX-120 on a gas powered water pump (model WX20P I believe) that has provided good service for several years.  This year when I have used it it starts well and runs fine for a few minutes and then quits.  If I wait just a bit (15 seconds) it will start again and run for awhile (like 5 seconds) and then die again.  If I reduce the throttle it will run fine indefinitely.

To me it seems like it isn't getting enough fuel and that it runs fine until the fuel in the fuel bowl gets too low and quits.  At a reduced throttle setting though it is getting enough fuel?! (this is a guess not an answer).

Troubleshooting has consisted of removing parts in the fuel supply to ensure all are clear and they seem to be (I can remove the float bowl and if I remove the float valve a steady stream of fuel will flow).

I have not done anything to the carburetor but doesn't seem like I should need to.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hello Lance:

You have Good Gas Flow to the Carburetor Inlet Port So; Remove, Disassemble and Soak Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I Use Gunk). Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air and Install a New Kit if Required. From your Description, it Sounds like the Main Jet is Restricted in the Carburetor. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog American Honda. Then Select Engine. Then Scroll Down to your Model. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
