Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): riding lawn mower wont start, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

Question
QUESTION: Hi John,
It's Huy again. I got a bad day when other spare riding Murray model 30577X8A with 12HP Briggs & Stratton engine model series 283700 suddenly won't start.
Here what I've done so far: replace batter y(death), spark splug and Armature-magneto (part # 333). The reason I replaced armature-magneto becaues it cracked.
I removed the housing-blower engine and let spark plug outside. Then test a fire from spark plug by starting the engine, there is no fire on spark plug but if I disconnect the ground connection from the armature-magneto, I got a lot of fire from spark plug. I don't know what I should check next, please advise
ANSWER:   Hello Again Huy:

You Sound like you are Having one of My Bad Days. Well, I Hope I can Help Make it Better. From your Description it Sounds like a Safety Switch is Grounding the Coil when you Attach the Coil Shut Off Wire. Check All the Safety Switches and the Ignition Switch. You can Unplug the Switches from the Harness and Jumper the Switch with a Short Wire Until you Locate the Bad Switch. Once the Bad Switch has been Located, Replace it. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

QUESTION: Hi John,
Finally the engine is running but don't know exactly what's the issue. Here what I did
Disconnect and have short wire to 3 safety switches then test the fire but no fire. I decide to take a risk by replacing the solennoid ($15.00), I have the fire. I installed all 3 safety switches back in place. Supprisingly, there is no fire. Jumping wire one by one to each safety switch but still no fire. I almost give up by putting back together and be going to call service in next few days.
After putting back everything, I have the fire and able to start the engine. I think you're right about the safety switches be grounding. And they are not grounding any more after plugging and unplugging too many times.
Thank you for all your help. My next lawn mower is Toro (the brake doesn't work well in my previous question)

Regards
Huy Phan

Answer
 Hi Huy:

Great!! I'm Glad you got 1 going. From the Description of your Labors, I Believe you had a Corroded Terminal End and the Plugging and Unplugging Cleaned the Connection. When you have the Time, I Suggest you Clean All the Connections for the Safety Switches and Inspect the Wiring Harness for Breaks or Bare Wires. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Till Next Time. May All your Mechanical Problems be SMALL ONES and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
