Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): golf cart, gold cart, golf cart

Question
My husband is working on a gold cart it is a 1970's model we belive.  He has got it running but it sputters and pops really babd.  Seems like it wants to run in reverse but tries to die when you put it in forward.  He has put all new hoses on it and taken the carb off and cleaned it.  Do you know what the problem could possibly be?  He has been working on this cart for several days now.

Answer
 Hello Rebecca:

From your Description it Sounds like the Point Set is Sticking or has Slipped Out of Adjustment and May Require Replacing. The Valves May Require Adjustment, but I would Make Sure the Point Set is Good before Tackling the Valves. On the Blower Housing of the Engine(metal engine cover) there should be Model Numbers STAMPED Into the Housing. Send me these Numbers and the Make of the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL and Better Assit you. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
