Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 7HP troy rototiller coil testing, spark plug wire, fly wheel

Question
Last fall I put away my tiller, running perfect. I had replaced the points, condenser, spark plug, and new tip on spark plug wire. Had also pulled fly wheel and cleaned all rust.  went to start up for spring tilling and no spark to plugs or points..... whatshould I do? How do I test the coil and what type of tool do I need to test the coil?

Answer
Pull the plug. With the plug attached to the plug wire groud the plug agaisnts the engine block and turn the engine over, if no spark look to the kill wire for a grounding problem. you can  just diconect it directly from the coil itself and eliminate the wire altogether and then test for spark again. Generally when a perfect running machine is put away for the winter and doesnt want to run a few months later, this is due to a carburator being gummed up from the gas sitting for to long. If in fact you find no spark and no problems with the kill wire it may be time to replace the coil theres no real way to test them
